Today, 1 in 66 children are diagnosed with autism in Ontario and approximately 23,000 children are on the waitlist for funding to receive treatment. On average, these children wait for 2 – 4 years before they receive government assistance. Unfunded, autism treatment can cost a family $60,000 a year per child, a figure that is out of reach for most.
AIM helps children access autism services regardless of funding. Our subsidized programs are available to families on funding waitlists, so their children can access services during the early years when therapy is most effective.
Because we’re committed to helping as many children as possible, we maintain a low administrative expenditure of less than 15% with majority of the donations going directly to support our programs.
At AIM, we believe all children deserve an equal opportunity to learn and develop. Donors, volunteers and sponsors are helping us make equal opportunity a reality for children with autism.
Whether you have an interest in or experience with autism, or you simply have a passion for helping others, we want to hear from you! We embrace diversity, varied skill sets and experiences from all backgrounds. We’re currently looking for volunteers to help with:
